Letters From Ethan, Dragonspyre Dreams

(I do have to keep running Ethan through Wizard101 - he has to catch up with the girls before they get too far into Avalon. I have gotten some emergency money so I can renew Christina's account, but getting money is hard for me right now. Hopefully, I'll get some more before the 21st as Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are due out then. Enjoy this interlude.)

My lovely Sierra:

Dragonspyre is as dark and depressing as you had described it, even in an alternate timeline.

I helped many people in the Tower Archives and the Plaza of Conquests in my quest to get a portal stone to the second ring of the city. I felt pity for them - they were ghosts bound to this cursed city because of a madman's desire to summon the Fire Titan.

While on a brief visit to Northguard to see the king, Madame Wu summoned me back to Ravenwood - she praised my accomplishments and told me to keep up with my studies. (Yep, I had to activate the Nidavellir part of Grizzleheim to get the small push to Level 48 for Ethan, so he could get his next spell quest, the quest to learn Rebirth. Rebirth is OP. :D )

Madame Wu sent me on a pilgrimage across the Spiral to meet three great tree lords to get gifts from them. The Great Tree, Bartleby, gave me a charm made from his bark; the Tree of Balance, which Christina spoke of, gave me a vine made from his leaves; and finally, I met the treant who you aided, Oakheart, in the Jade Palace. When I mentioned your name, he told me to thank you and gave me a clasp made of his heartwood. When I gave the items to Madame Wu, she created a necklace and put it around my neck. Well, I'm stuck with it for life because the chain is made from Nile's vines and is stronger than steel and the clasp from Oakheart can't be opened by anyone but a tree lord, but I will make the sacrifice for you and anyone. (Actual fact: You HAVE to do all of the Mossback side-quests in the Shosun and Yoshihito areas for Mossback, Wavebringer and Oakheart - that includes defeating Wavebringer and Oakheart[twice, first as the Crazed Forest Spirit] to get this quest completed as Oakheart needs to be in this dojo in the Jade Palace, which won't happen if you don't complete the side-quest chain! Yep, a side-quest for others is mandatory for Ethan. :p)

Madame Wu told me that the next part of the test was to get the Roto of Reading, which was in a memory crystal in Dragonspyre. I visited the library in the Atheneum and Milos told me that a thief called the Collector had the crystal. I was smart when I remembered your stories - you told me that the Collector was lurking in the Drake Hatchery, she had stolen some dragon reins.

(I find that the difficulty of the Level 48 quests so far is thus)
  •  Storm: Other than getting into the Labyrinth, which is easy to do if a friend lets you port in, the whole quest for getting Storm Lord is easy - your battle part is fighting Gearheads which are easy to one-shot at Level 48 with Tempest even WITH resist!
  • Life: Visit some trees, get some charms, then kill a boss which you HAVE to kill for a main quest anyways. :p
  • Balance: Go through a two-battle gauntlet in the Necropolis, then do some non-battle quests to get Power Nova. Easy.
  • Myth: Hardest of all, go through a FOUR-battle gauntlet in the Labyrinth, fight a boss, then get some stuff.
Fire, which I searched on Youtube, has a quest with a difficulty between Life and Balance - you have to re-defeat four Fire-elemental bosses and then do some stuff. Ice is similar in structure to Fire - defeat some Troll enemies (who are easier to defeat because they are Myth) and do non-battle stuff; Death is semi-hard.)

Thanks to a friendly wizard, I was able to visit Vestrilund to get the Black Pearls I needed to create the two Flamesoul Cloaks, even though it meant having to give up on crafting the Adept armor. It wasn't that big of a loss anyways. Balthazar sent me to craft the Crimson Bookcases but I held off for a while - I needed more Black Pearls.

I saw so many things in the alternate Dragonspyre. I felt the pain of Sylvia's undead existence and put her out of her misery though it pained me so. Was this how you felt when you did the same?

On a lighter note, I got a strange squid while fishing. (Yes! The day after Halloween, the day before Halloweenfest is due to end, and Ethan got the Vampire Squid, the only Halloween fish I couldn't find! I am so glad I got it before tomorrow.)

I defeated the Collector and took the crystal... but it was broken. Milos told me the other half was owned by Scarrik Gallowgaunt, a wizard who lives in the Labyrinth. Well, I had to prove myself in the Crucible first.

Life: Visit some trees, get some charms, then kill a boss which you HAVE to kill for a main quest anyways... AND THEN FIGHT A GUY IN THE LABYRINTH! That makes half of the schools who need to get their spell quests done in the wretched place.

Your friend pulled me aside and took me to that Pagoda who and she explored when you were still an Adept in Mooshu. She told me how you were devastated when you heard that Malistaire had escaped to Dragonspyre and how she explored this place with you to get your mind off of that. (Nathan Icedust, a fellow player, invited Christina to a Pagoda Instance Hall in someone else's Azteca Pyramid house[that also had a Spiral Cup Gauntlet item] so I decided to have Ethan join to drop the level to a reasonable one and give him the Master of K&F badge. I was glad I didn't have his test be to go through the Pagoda.) She also told me you had a spell that summons Ninja Pigs. I found a couple of them being held captive by that evil warlord at the top of the Pagoda and they now follow me about. It's amusing. (Holy cow! Talk about luck of the Ninja Pigs! Ethan got two regular Ninja Pig pets as drops in the Pagoda and Christina got a Plague Ninja Pig pet! I haven't been able to raise them because I don't have Megas for that account but Ethan is starting up a Prickly Bear Cactus garden because he found a Krok Insect Plaque.)

Oh, and you can call me Grandmaster Theurgist now, Diego gave me some training. (Yep, just after getting the last crystal to fight Blackrock, our Life Wizard lover-boy hit Level 50! --^_^--)

The Labyrinth awaited. It was quite amazing. Watching the lava part was awe-inspiring.

I found the one who had the other piece of the Rota crystal and a friendly Ice Wizard called Christopher Frostheart helped me defeat him, but it was an epic struggle. (Only because somehow ANOTHER Galladium Paladin joined the fight while Christina was busy with the first one! Christopher got rid of this guy, who only has 1115 HP, but he used Death Shield before Ethan could Prism him, so yeah.)

After getting the Rota of Reading fixed and memorized, Madame Wu sent me to get some flowers from Lady Oriel. They were flowers from all over the Spiral, Sierra. I decided to walk back instead of using my roc and popped in to meet people in Unicorn Way. They told me wonderful stories about how you saved them from ghosts and corrupted faeries. I am honored to be in love with you.

I blushed again. Was it so long ago when I was venturing out in an ugly yellow robe and hat with a wildclaw pet at my side and they still talk about me back there? Now I am a Knight of the Wyrd and seeking the Sword of Kings. I don't think Ethan will join me in this quest, but I hope he can get strong enough to help us later.

I gained the Rebirth Spell from the Great Tree himself, Sierra! After I sang the Rota and held the flowers, the necklace came off of my neck and sank into the ground, and the Great Tree Bartleby himself appeared and granted me the power to cast the spell. Madame Wu gave me the card for it. It is a powerful healing spell. Once I join your group, I will prove to be a valuable asset. (Rebirth is a powerful healing spell - it restores 650 base health and plants a Spirit Armor on everyone. This not only undoes enemy damage, but makes it harder to get hit... though Drain spells still ignore the armor and do normal damage.)

I have to go now, I have to get a Dragonrider's staff to reach Malistaire in the alternate world. When I defeat him, I will write you again. Cheers, my love! Ethan.

I smiled gently. He is trying so hard to prove himself to us. I hope he succeeds!

[End Letters for now]

  1. Here's the new tier of Level 48 Spell Quest difficulty from easiest to hardest):

    > Storm: Defeat several mobs in Marleybone, talk to NPCs, visit the Labyrinth at a spot, and more cutscenes until you get spell. The only fights are with mobs in Marleybone and you should be able to one-shot these Gearheads even WITH resist. Get Storm Lord.
    > Fire: Refight Prince Alicane and Biti Nirini, a Wild Sunbird mob in Marleybone, and refight Ember Everburn, get some stuff for a golden chain, have Falmea fix it up, and fight Mavra Flamewing in Dragonspyre, get cutscene right after the fight, get Fire Dragon. These boss fights aren't solo so you can get ice wizards to help you out. ;p
    > Ice: Refight the troll boss in the Grand Arena, fight a Burly Troll mob in Knight's Court, go back to Crimson Fields to refight the troll boss there. (The first troll boss must be done solo but you are overpowered for this fight by now.) Then do some stuff and visit Colossus Boulevard to get a cutscene, get Frost Giant.
    > Life: Talk to Bartleby and Niles, do the Mossback quests to get Oakheart to Jade Palace so you can talk to him, then kill the Collector and Scarrow in the Labyrinth, more cutscenes, get Rebirth.
    > Death: Go to Labyrinth, talk to someone, do a fight in a building, go back to Tree of Life and defeat the guy who gives you the Shadow Dagger, get some fetch quests, then go to Haunted Cave for a scene, get Scarecrow
    > Myth: Get a book, write a report, go to the Labyrinth, do a two-level tower with a tough boss at the end, do some non-battle stuff, get Orthrus
    > Balance: Do a short gauntlet in the Labyrinth, do the entire Shirtaki Temple again to defeat the Plague Oni, more non-battle stuff, get Power Nova.
