Walking of the Wyrd (Crafting the Wyrd House)

(Time for another house crafting! I started this post a long time ago, long before Avalon, so some of the screenshots are a bit out of date. Finally got the last reagents to make that last item, phew!)

Hello there! Now that we're in Avalon, it's time for another ye olde housing crafting tutorial, this time for the wicked Wyrd House! My Watcher is suffering to get the money to buy me an Extra House Elixir (it costs a whopping 3500 crowns!!!) so I can complete the quadfecta with the new Treehouse recipe, but for now, I'm happy with this!

To get the recipe, you must travel to Abbey Road and visit his guy, Padraig, at the white tent. He'll sell the recipe for the house. (He's also the person to go to if you are crazy for the kiosk mini-games as he has the recipes to craft them, but you have to be a Legendary Craft to buy the recipes for those.) Hold onto your hats, this recipe is EVIL. (I checked and you don't have to be a Legendary Crafter - in fact I bought the recipe before I started Zafaria, thanks to Amy again, so I was still a Grandmaster Artisan. I don't know if you can buy the recipe as a Master Artisan or you need to be a Grandmaster.)

Well, not TOO evil. You only need two crafted items, but one of the ingredients is pretty rare by most standards. You won't even get it until you reach Avalon. You also need TWO types of treasure cards. Here is the shopping list:

  • 6 Forest Lord Treasure Cards
  • 4 Poison Treasure Cards
  • 10 Grendelweed
  • 40 Mist Wood
  • 1 Vine
  • 2 Brick-Walled Ponds
  • 2 Cephalod Obelisks
  • 2 Jars of Mushrooms
No gems, no vials, only these items. Forest Lord and Poison cards are easy peasy to buy at the Bazaar as people just unload truckloads of them, but the rest aren't that easy. Grendelweed is a rare harvest from Frost Flower spawners(luckily I had a ton of them since the place I farmed my Sunstones also had Frost Flower spawners as a common spawn). Mist Wood is the easiest to get, you should be having tons of splinters from all that Mist Wood in your backpack! If you are wood-poor, you can farm Mist Wood in Marleybone or Grizzleheim and you can buy it for cheap in the Bazaar. :)

Luckily, you can pretty much buy the two Cephalod Obelisks in the Bazaar these days, but if you MUST craft them, here is the recipe list:

  • 2 Precision treasure cards
  • 2 Perfect Rubies
  • 2 Simple Vials
  • 4 Sandstones
  • 6 Fish Fins
  • 14 Aether
  • 26 Black Pearls
You can buy the recipe from Gearwise in Celestia. It's not that hard to craft them, but seriously, why bother when you can buy the items from the Bazaar? (I might eat my own robes later when the demand is high. :p)

The Brick Walled Ponds you pretty much have to craft. Luckily, my old mentor Balthazar Dragonthorn in Drgonspyre has the recipe. The items you need to craft them are:
  • 12 Storm Shark treasure cards
  • 2 Shadow Oils
  • 4 Glass Vials
  • 168 Deep Mushrooms! (I had twice that amount)
  • 56 Black Lotus (back to Vestrilund for lotus farming!!!)
  • 40 Ancient Scrolls
  • 160 Spider Webs
 That's a lot of stuff!

The final crafted reagent is the Jar of Mushrooms. You get the recipe from the same bear who gave you the Tea Set recipe for Ogden Peake's quest(Torald Wayfinder), and here is the shopping list, which isn't as bad as the other two items:
  • 8 Spirit Armor treasure cards
  • 2 Amethysts
  • 8 Shadow Oils
  • 2 Glass Vials
  • 80 Stone Blocks
  • 20 Nightshade
I am sure you probably guessed the Stone Blocks and Nightshade are the hardest items to get here. I was able to transmute the last six Nightshade but it seemed everyone had robbed me of Dragonspyre Stone Block. Luckily, you can also find Stone Blocks in Stone Town, pun intended. :p

(Along the way I met two wizards with the same name - Oran Mist - and realized they were owned by the same guy! How wow is that? ^_^)

(I cut this from a video because there was no way in Hades[sic] I was going to go fight this guy again!)

The HARDEST reagent to get is the Vine. You only need one of these and it drops from bosses... in Tartarus, which I can't even reach until I'm a Promethean! (Yep, Hades the Unseen and the three optional uber-bosses in each of the dungeons which are impossible to solo and you get side-quests to defeat at Level 90 have a VERY RARE chance of dropping Vines. They also have a rare chance of dropping Amber, Amber Dust and Merle's Whiskers - the last two items are used to transmute Amber. Ouch!)

Therefore, I had to resort to what I knew - Gardening. There are several plants that give you Vines at elder, rarely, so I planted ones I could get, Trumpet Vines. Since they love King Parsley, this is a win-win situation as they could juice in my Couch Potato garden.

This took a long time to get because the chances you'll get a Vine are low, so you must replant over and over until they cough up the goods.

Luckily, my pen pal Chris Storycrafter had two Vines he wasn't using so he gave me one, score! ^_^ (Probably got it from a quest event.)

Once you get everything, you should know where to go.

Ready? Steady...

(fanfare)

And there you go, the third crafted house is mine! It's pretty much a carbon copy of Black Annie's house in Avalon. :)

I might use this as my "Mercenary" house, though to be honest, that would be inefficient. However, this is the only house which has TWO Bank chests.

And so I leave you with this palm tree jarring the landscape. XD

I finally realized my goal of crafting three houses without needing Crowns. My Frugal spirit is calm.

(Of course, I heard there is a fourth craftable house, but the recipe is in a future world.)

  1. Sierra from the future here!

I said that Vines are impossible to farm for? Well, if you check out Christina's post in the Mysteries of the Spiral, she told me that you can FISH for Vines in the Elephant Graveyard! Yep, there are many chests and Vines are a reagent in them. Wish I had known that earlier! :D

  2. The Elephant Graveyard also has chests that randomly and rarely give you wands that have been retired so if you want a cool wand to stitch into, start fishing! :)
