I was pleased that we found a clue but then we got a call from Hugo Chatterly the librarian. He asked us to help check to see if a student he sent into the Library Archives was okay.
We found the third Wallflower and third book...
"The Pigswick Method of magic instruction teaches that students should be exposed only to theoretical discussion. Actual magic and spell-casting is discouraged as vulgar and 'easy'... the true path to magic is a restful attitude. For this reason, Pigswick students are given no homework, o studies and spend most of their time taking naps. Well-rested students are eventually able to 'figure it out' when it comes to the use of magic."
"Unfortunately, few Pigswick students ever become real wizards and the rest enter other trades."
"Figures," snorted Penny. "With that sort of attitude, anyone would get lazy and give up while YOU, the TRUE wizards, manage to kick everyone's a---"
"Penny," hissed Grace.
"Yeah, that's sort of rude," I murmured. "But while it seems racist, I think you're right, little mermaid. If I had not become so much of a tightwad, I would be broke and unable to afford my Red Barn Farm, my garden or even a decent set of gear and I would have NEVER gotten my awesome minions and Cyrus would have expelled me from his school!"
"Agreed, hard work is always the best," said Grace. She sighed. "It is sad that so many people in the Spiral are too lazy to actually 'figure it out'... and that is why they give up on magic, because they are told lies about actual application being..."
A scream of horror interrupted our discussion and we rushed to find out what was screaming...
(Unfortunately, the Wildclaw put up a Myth Shield so Sierra was neutered, so it was up to Grace to Prism it.) |
The student thanked up and explained that she had been studying a book on Grizzleheim when the creature got summoned by accident. We found the book and returned it to Hugo.
"Ugh," said Penny. "This is why Pigswick is a horrible school to learn magic, if this is what happens when they find summoning spells!"
"I know," sighed Grace. "But where is Sierra? We have to continue the tournament, the semi-finals are coming up and..."
To be honest, I was helping a student called Eloise Clocktower who had lost her tour group. When I checked the professors she had visited, they claimed she had been talking to thin air, and Eloise was shocked. "I was alone all this time?" she cried. "Oh no! I must have left them at my house in Pegasus Place! Please, can you go see if they are okay?"
Sierra's new Time Of Legend spell in action! |
They were but the goblins had locked them in the house. I made a note to beat up those wretched things some more when I got the chance.
(Three battles of goblins and nearly DYING to them got the key. Yuck.)
However, when I found Grace, she told me she had not been idle. After visiting Benedict, he said that I was to be paired against Nalia and Grace was to be paired against Randolf, but those two had gotten in Tanglewood Way and Nalia had lost her wand, basically screwing herself over.
"I conferred with the guards at the gate to Tanglewood Way and found that there was a crack in the wall which I could squeeze through," said Grace. "And what I saw scared me..."
"Both of us!" cried Penny. "There were lanky green men with mustaches! It was freaky!"
I shuddered.
"We did recover the wand and return it to Nalia, but..." Grace continued.
"We found a creepy tower," said Penny. "It had some trees and lots of vines!"
"Hmmm, we'll make note of that," I said. "Anything else?"
"Yes, the last Wallflower is in a niche near the end of the street," said Grace.
"Good to know," I said. "We'll take the files to Zeke so he can record them and give us our reward."
"I hope she wins," I giggled. "But to be honest, I'm not going to lose against her."
"Well, there is one other thing..." Grace said. "We found pieces of foliage similar to that at the scene of the crime. Maybe the green men stole the Spiral Cup."
I frowned. "We'd better investigate then!"
"You'd make a wonderful detective," giggled Penny.
