Crafting Quests With Sierra (Part 2: The Road to Grandmaster)

Hey there, it's me again! Last time I told you how to get to Initiate Crafter. Now it gets real as we enter the next three quests to Crafting Mastery. Let's go!

Quest: "The Light of Two Rings" (reward: 3rd Crafting Slot)
After you deliver the athames and rings you were asked to make to Felicia, she pockets them and sends you on your merry Mooshu way to Toshio, who hangs out by the path to Hamatsu Village. He's got another crafting slot ready for you if you craft two Seals of the Seraphim for him! Hope you have:
  • 8 Peridot
  • 6 Rubies
  • 10 Glass Vial
  • 20 Black Lotus
  • 30 Mist Wood

Black Lotus, as I found out, is hard to get - there are several Lotus spawners in Mooshu, but they are so far apart it's pointless to realm hop. As I found out, Vestrilund, near the Winterbranch patrols, has five Black Lotus spawners that are close together so it's easy to realm hop! You can also find Black Lotus in the Bazaar but it's costly and melts away faster than ice cream in summer, so be wary.

Quest: "Dirks of Daring" (reward: Adept Crafter badge)

Once you get those rings to Toshio, he'll send you off to craft two Possibility Dirks after giving you your third(and final) crafting slot. You need a total of:
  • 4 Sapphire
  • 4 Rubies
  • 10 Glass Vials
  • 20 Ectoplasm
  • 30 Stone Blocks
Ectoplasm is easy to buy but ghostly enemies like Banshees drop them as well. Those are the only ways you'll get this gooey reagent. Yuji Hamada(the goat monk nearby) will sell you any gems or Glass Vials you need. By this time you must have special crafting stations - Card Crafting for transmutes and treasure cards(as treasure cards will be mandatory for future recipes), Equipment Crafting for the equipment recipes, and Housing Crafting for housing items.

Once you have completed the Mooshu quests, Toshio directs you to Dragonspyre. Go to the Atheneum and turn right as you enter to find this ghostly knight, Balthazar Dragonthorn. I've touched over his quests before, but I'll go over them again - he has a whopping THREE quests.

Quest: "Two Rings to Bind Them"

First, you need to make two Rings of Apotheosis, which only requires three reagents:
  • 18 Ghost Fires (purchasable from Zultan Nightstone, the blackrock golem nearby)
  • 30 Diamonds
  • 40 Black Lotus
I told you where the Lotuses are, and the Diamonds are rare harvests from Ore which has five spawners in the Atheneum. You'll be realm-hopping a lot. This is where transmute recipes get important - if you don't find enough Diamonds in one sweep of the realms, you will surely get enough to transmute a couple of diamonds; it requires 15 Ores to make a Diamond.

Quest: "Needle and Thread"

After that, the second quest is a bit different: You have to make two robes of your school of magic which have recipes in various Mooshu areas. Here is a list of the recipes I know of and the area where you can find the recipes for them. Balthazar directs you to these areas.
  • Death = Duskwind Tunics (Ancient Burial Grounds, sheep in the tombs)
  • Myth = Surcoat of the Paragon (Village of Sorrow, ninja pig in the village)
  • Balance = Cloak of Weighty Grief (Shoshun Village, goat monk near the pond)
  • Storm = Raintree Tunic (Cave of Solitude, samoorai near the entrance to the caves)
  • Ice = Thunderchill Cloak (Yoshihito Temple, geisha cow at the temple steps)
(I am not sure what the fire and life robes are and where to find the recipes, but I am sure they are in Mooshu somewhere.)

The recipes are varied and hard to list the ingredients for, but I do know they have several things in common:
  • You need 12 Treasure Cards of spells of your school. (I needed Cyclops, Christina needed Locust Swarm and Grace needed Storm Shark)
  • You also need 6 Crystal Vials, 28 Gems the same color as the secondary school the robes boost[I needed Rubies, Grace needed Jade, and Christina needed Onyx], and 24 of a common reagent.
  • You finally need 30 Frost Flowers, 16 Black Pearls, and 40 Stone Blocks. These three reagents are all the same no matter what the robe is.
Quest: "Iron Craft Dragonspyre" (reward: Master Artisan Badge)

Finally you will need to craft two Crimson Book Stands - the recipe is sold by Toshio. This is easy to do but the reagents are a hassle to get:
  • 6 Fire Elf treasure cards
  • 6 Shadow Oils
  • 2 Glass Vials
  • 72 Cat Tails
  • 24 Nightshade (rare harvest from Deep Mushroom)
  • 20 Blood Moss (rare harvest from Red Mandrake)
  • 12 Black Pearl (rare harvest from Black Lotus, see above)
My friend Grace took forever to get this quest done as the latter reagents were hard to come by. But after a while, she found enough Red Mandrake and Deep Mushrooms to get the required transmutes for the Nightshade and Blood Moss and only needed to realm hop to get the Black Pearls and Lotus to transmute when she couldn't find it.

Once you get the Master Artisan badge(which is necessary to craft the houses I did), it's time for the Grandmaster Artisan badge. Balthazar will tell you about Pierce Stanston. I've described him in my journal so I don't think you need to be reminded of where he is - you advance the story with him. His quest is the last crafting quest involving equipment and he sells the recipe. You only need to make one Seal of the Seven Seas, which requires:
  • 5 Polymorph Treant treasure cards
  • 7 Perfect Jade (now we start needing the PERFECT gems, which are sold by Arcthyras, the steambot next to the ramp up to the Spiral Gate in the Base Camp)
  • 5 Pristine Vials (also sold by Arcthyras)
  • 6 Sunstones
  • 11 Golden Pearls
  • 8 Fish Fins
  • 10 Sandstones
ALL of the non-purchasable items are VERY rare so expect to farm for days. I mentioned how I got the Sunstones and Sandstones in my crafting of the Celestial Observatory. If you can't buy Golden Pearls, they are a rare harvest from Pearls, or you can transmute 15 Pearls into a Golden one. Fish Fins are only found as drops from fishy enemies but you can transmute 15 Scales(also dropped by fishy enemies and more commonly dropped) into a Fish Fin.

That's it for now. Next time, we'll get to the nitty gritty, my quest to get to Legendary... it's tough!

  1. This is Sierra from the future, here with a helpful tip! ^_^

If you are wondering where I got the Polymorph Treant TCs, you can buy them from the Archivist in the District of Stars in Celestia, and recent updates in treasure card libraries have made it so you can buy them from the giraffe librarian in Baobab Crown too. ;)
