This is from the God of War wiki, I didn't make this. |
(Well, Sierra and Grace didn't KILL any gods, but they defeated some... well, immortal bird-men aren't really on the par of the Greek Gods, but... anyways, yep, Sierra hit Level 30 and is now ready to tackle Aquila! Woo woo woo! *banana dance* Okay, let's get on with this. Also, I have given up naming session numbers as by the time we get to Khrysalis, it'll be Session 103458192181, and that will eat up bandwidth, so I'll just go with names of places.)
My mentor, Professor Drake, summoned me. I was wondering if he was going to load me with homework again, but this time he was civil and told me about something called "The Immortal Games." He told me it was an ongoing thing in a realm called Aquila, which was very intimately connected to my school of magic. He then DARED me, the NERVE, to take on the Immortal Games. Well, if he thinks I'm going to run away like a craven coward, HE HAS ANOTHER THING COMING TO HIM! :p
Surprisingly, the one who knew about Aquila was the Cyclops who I bluffed my way through long ago, when I was still a newbie wizard, Romulus. Wow, was it REALLY that long ago? It seemed like last week when I heard him cry "You're not a Warhorn!" but this time his voice was much more civilized. I guess he had taken speech classes! ^_^
He directed me to Harold Argleston, the librarian, who directed me to a scroll telling about the Chariot of Aetheon, which was in Cyclops Lane - it was a statue near the Festival Park which I had passed by zillions of time but never noticed until now - it was a portal to Aquila. Romulus told me about the fame and fortune I could win if I won and the painful bruises I would get if I lost.
I went to the statue and chanted the ritual that would send me to the place known as the Garden of Hesperides, where I would meet...
Well, hello. I didn't expect Grace.
"Are you here for the Immortal Games too, Mma Fairyfriend?" asked Grace, smiling.
"Huh? You got invited too?" I asked. "What about our investigations?"
"I tried to stop her, Mma, but you know her," sighed Penny, arms crossed. I had the distinct feeling that she didn't want to be here. She REALLY didn't like being here, which piqued my curiosity.
"Let us go visit Rra Silenus, the Satyr hosting this event," said Grace.
We met Silenus, who directed us to his eldest 'daughter', Aegle. I doubt they are actually related as Aegle is a bird, but I was polite not to point that out. Aegle told us about Mount Olympus, the home of most of the Immortals. I was intrigued.
Silenus told us that our first challenge was Mount Olympus, and the stairs were nearby. We found a lot of contenders eager to share int he glory, and some rode amazing beasts!
(That's the new Golden Roc mount, which was a special for the recent Mount-a-Palooza. It is very expensive, though.)
Inside, we met with one of the Immortals(who is also a bird), Athena Battle-Sight. She directed us on where to go. We had to collect three legion tokens, and they were guarded by powerful guardians:
The first was guarded by Athena's brother, Apollo Bright-One, who wielded the power of the Sun. Those arrows gave me sunburn and a bunch of armored Cyclops kept summoning dang frogs!
(I used Team Up and managed to get lucky, teaming the girls up with a Necromancer called Andrew Angledust and a Sorcerer called Hunter Battlegem. They were much higher level and thus able took much of the damage. Still, the girls took a lot of damage from Humongofrogs that the Elite Cyclopians cast as well as Apollo's Meteor Strike, and Sierra got targeted by his special attack, which really really sucked.)
Then we had to fight a centaur and her snake archer buddy, who were protecting the second token from us in lieu of Athena's sister, Diana Bright-Moon. I wonder how many siblings Athena had.
(For those wondering about the whole sibling relationships here, Aquila is based off of Greek Mythology, where... well, let's just say Zeus made a lot of women pregnant, much to the chagrin of his wife [and sister since he was born of the same parents] Juno, who caused a lot of grief for Zeus and his mistresses. Zeus conceived Apollo[god of the sun], Diana[goddess of the moon], Ares[god of war, yes, THAT God of War], and Hepasteus[demigod of metal-working and the one who forged Zeus's lightning bolt weapons]. So they are all technically half-siblings. Oh yeah, the centaur here isn't tough but two more ophidian archers caught Hunter and Andrew and Grace had to save them. Ugh, I hate it when mooks spawn after a battle.)
(Sierra got slaughtered by the swarm of Humongos that the Elite Cyclopians tossed and lost the fight but managed to take out the Praetoran Guard with her own Critical Hit Frog, buffed by a lot of blades. Grace finished off the Cyclops with a buffed Tempest. I am so grateful for Dungeon Recall, or else Sierra would have to restart the dungeon as you can't port into these dungeons. Andrew cast a spell on Grace to protect her from getting defeated just before Sierra died.)
Our next task was to solve a riddle by Eris Golden-Apple, who would try to confuse us. We had to match the legion tokens correctly to defeat hers but Grace figured it out with the help of some tapestries which told of the various wars that happened in Aquila.
(That didn't happen. What REALLY happened was that the men failed the puzzle and got dragged into a fight with the legion tokens, which the girls joined in. I guess they were looking for loot. Also, this is not one of the tapestries which give hints to the puzzle solution.)
I went the wrong way and heard a terrifying voice. "Well well, little girl, wander far from home? You shouldn't bother me, the Gladiator of Diamechtris!" I stained my jerkins in fear and fled screaming.
(Yeaaaaah, not touching this guy for a long time, as in sixty levels. Yes, you can enter the optional boss rooms long before you are Level 90, at least for this place and Atlantea. I guess the program professionals didn't want to code tons of stuff to prevent you from entering as a newbie.)
Grace led me to the right place to go and we fought some more of those annoying cyclops. They were guards for Hephaestus Copper-Smith, who asked us to find his little statues. Grace and one of the guys we were with located all four quickly and Heph told us that he had forged a magic spear called the Sky-Iron Hasta which would give us the edge against Zeus.
The Sky-Iron Hasta was in the possession of Ares, who was guarding the door to Zeus Sky-Father's chamber. We had to get past him and his snake minion. After a tough battle, we took down the snake and I summoned my amazing ninja pigs to attack him.
"FOOL! YOU DARK STRIKE ME DIRECTLY!?" he roared and then he scraped the tip of his spear on the floor, causing it to glow red-hot. I screamed in horror as the spear impaled my chest and exploded, and Grace narrowed her eyes angrily at my attacker.
"You made a dire mistake harming my sister, Rra," she hissed.
Penny chanted and her fellow sirens appeared and blasted Ares with a water tornado which exploded with lightning. I felt my bleeding chest and sobbed through the pain.
"Are you all right?" asked Grace. "It is over, Ares is defeated." She wielded the Sky-Iron Hasta.
"Take it," I sobbed, downing a potion which recovered my wounds. "I won't take a weapon that nearly killed me."
(Yeah, Ares did his cheat attack because a really-buffed up Ninja Pigs didn't kill him in one shot even after Hunter used Power Nova on him. Despite the above, it only did 340 damage to Sierra. Hunter was the worse off because he had been fighting Ares long before the girls got there. Lucky for us, he didn't use Deer Knight. That would suck. And both girls got the Sky-Iron Hasta, which is our first power pip granting weapon. I just didn't need it for Sierra as she got something a little better - it doesn't give a power pip but it's still great.)
And then I got my Myth Prism and placed it on Zeus. I then used one of the Otomo Fury cards and...
Well, you can see the results. (Grace is a great team mate for Sierra - she placed a ton of Storm traps and Windstorm, then Sierra put a Myth Prism and had several blades on her thanks to the Sorcerer, which buffed her Otomo Fury treasure card to one-shot the big guy.)
(Grace took out the minion with Sirens, as per usual. :p)
Zeus gave us some magical laurels as souvenirs of our victory and they were pretty good headgear - the one I got was stronger than my old hat, so I sold the old hat...
And used the money to transform the laurel in a nicer hat. I don't mind the crown but it made my hair look weird. Oh, and Zeus gave me one of his bolts of lightning - it doesn't hurt at all after Grace showed me how to hold it. ^_^
(Yes! Sierra got a rare drop - Zeus' Falling Skies lightning staff! It gives some healing boost and 3% accuracy to Myth spells. It doesn't give a power pip but it gives staff attacks that are storm-based so Sierra won't bust her traps. Also, both girls got Senator's Laurels. It downgraded Grace's health a bit but the resistance to fire and ice and power pip boost cannot be ignored, as well as some healing boost and storm boosts. Sierra gets life and death resists instead. I used what little crowns left to stitch the laurel into a nice hat.)
Silenus praised us and gave us the title of Honorable Bronze Archon. He said it would be a long time before we were ready for the next challenge, and I heard Penny mumble "Good, the longer the better, I hate this place." I think she really doesn't want to be here, but I won't pry - Grace takes good care of her pet (even if she claims it's her secretary) and I'm sure Grace will explain the situation later.
Right now, I just want to go home, harvest my couch potatoes - they all turned elder so I have to plant another crop soon - and go to sleep in my lovely new bed. (Rare drop from an enemy, Sierra got this beautiful Lunar Emblem Bed.)
Grace said she was going to put away her old staff and use the Sky-Iron Hasta. Well, peace out!
(And peace out for the Staff of Ascension. Retire in peace, old staff, you've served my old account well but we have no need of your services anymore. You will rest in peace in the Sunken Castle for the rest of my life. Farewell! ^_^)
